The artist was diagnosed with breast cancer in the Spring of 2003. The Vulnerable series was a response to that experience.

This work includes a poem by a friend of the artist (unfortunately difficult to read in this photo):


He falls headfirst from the mighty tower,
His arms by his side, his eyes open.
Like Galileo's spheres his life
Is consumed by the gravity of the moment,
At thirty-two feet per second per second.
He would like to tell his daughter
That the Italian was entirely correct:
All objects fall at the same speed
Regardless of the weight of the soul.
